DASC Academy is excited to announce the summer intensive training series. We are offering 3 3-hour workshops focused on specific evidence-based treatments. 3 CEs/CEUs are offered per workshop for Licensed Clinical/Counseling Psychologists, Social Workers, and Counselors.

On Monday, 7/29, Caroline Burke, LCSW will lead a workshop on using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) with a high-risk adolescent population. It will explore how this modality can be applied with adolescents and the effective ways in which clinicians can include family in treatment. Learning objectives for this training are:

1)     Identify adolescent risk factors that lead to self-harm and suicidal ideation.

2)     Explain what makes DBT an effective intervention.

3)     Effectively incorporate parental/caregiver involvement in the treatment process.

4)     Implement the DBT framework specifically with the adolescent population.

On Wednesday, 7/31, Dipali Bharadwaj, PsyD will lead an introductory workshop on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This workshop will focus on providing participants an overview of the theoretical foundations of ACT. Participants will also learn about the core processes of ACT and how to conceptualize problematic/unhelpful behaviors from an ACT perspective. Learning objectives for this training are:

1)     Explain the theoretical foundations of ACT.

2)     List and explain the core processes of ACT.

3)     Demonstrate an understanding of how the core processes work to increase psychological flexibility.

4)     Implement specific interventions consistent with ACT.

On Friday, 8/2, Kerry Curran, LCSW, ACT will run a workshop on the practical application of DBT skills. The workshop will focus on helping clinicians build a better understanding of when DBT is the appropriate modality of care, and to increase comfort and confidence with utilizing DBT skills in their clinical work. Learning objectives for this training are:

1)     Exhibit an understanding of the four modules of DBT Skills Training

2)     Identify and implement appropriate DBT Skills both with clients and yourself?

3)     Explain how current research supports DBT Skills Training as a stand-alone treatment?

DASC-Chicago

http://dascchicago.com

The Depression and Anxiety Specialty Clinic of Chicago was founded in 2005 by Rodney J. Benson, Ph.D. after it became apparent that there was a significant shortage of quality Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) available in Chicago. Many people with treatable disorders, such as Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Social Phobia and Major Depressive Disorder were suffering needlessly because they could not access quality care. It has been the mission of DASC to address this shortage by providing services to those suffering and also offering training opportunities to other professionals to increase the availability of CBT. DASC currently has over 20 clinical staff specializing in using and teaching CBT. DASC Academy is a branch of DASC that is committed to providing professional training and education to clinicians interested in increasing their knowledge of evidence-based practices.
